WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE IN THIS POSITION:

A new approach to embedded development, building on your Rust or C/C++ experience, to create secure firmware for industrial heating control and leak detection products.

We are looking for an intern for an 4 to 8 month internship, beginning May 2026. Preference given to those in their third or fourth year of their post-secondary program.

You will gain practical experience at our Research and Development centre in Edmonton, working with experienced embedded firmware professionals. We offer a flexible hybrid schedule.

As a Firmware Engineer Intern, you will get to:

  • Combine your formal education with specific hands-on experience to kickstart your career as a firmware engineer, embedded software engineer, embedded developer, or firmware software developer.
  • Demonstrate your ability to quickly learn and harness a large set of modern tools to test, implement and deploy embedded firmware solutions.
  • Gain experience programming and debugging firmware and electronics.
  • Be a valued member of the firmware team and work in collaboration with the hardware and testing teams.
  • Learn and apply leading edge firmware development practices to grow Chemelex’s product portfolio.
  • Gain exposure to Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) technologies.
  • Work in a highly collaborative agile team environment to deliver industry leading digital solutions.

YOU HAVE:

  • Enrolled in an approved program to obtain a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computing Science, or equivalent. The program must include a co-op or student internship component.
  • Firmware or software design and implementation skills, ideally with Linux, FreeRTOS, or bare metal.
  • Ability to code in C, C++, Rust, or similar.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts with peers and team members.
  • The ability to rapidly learn and apply complex technologies.
