Description
Hi, we are ecobee.
ecobee introduced the world’s first smart Wi-Fi thermostat to help millions of consumers save money, conserve energy, and bring home automation into their lives. That was just the beginning. We continue our pursuit to create technology that brings peace of mind into the home and allows people to focus on the moments that matter most. We take pride in making a meaningful difference to the environment, all while being part of the exciting, connected home revolution.
In 2021, ecobee became a subsidiary of Generac Power Systems. Generac introduced the first affordable backup generator and later created the category of automatic home standby generator. The company is committed to sustainable, cleaner energy products poised to revolutionize the 21st century electrical grid. Together, we take pride in making a meaningful difference to the environment.
Why we love to do what we do:
We’re helping build the world of tomorrow with solutions that improve everyday life while making a positive impact on the planet. Our products and services work in harmony to provide comfort, efficiency, and peace of mind for millions of homes and businesses. While we’re proud of what we’ve done so far, there’s still a lot we can do—and you can be part of it.
Join our extraordinary team.
We're a rapidly growing global tech company headquartered in Canada, in the heart of downtown Toronto, with an office in Leeds, UK, and remote ecopeeps in the US. We get to work with some of North America and UK's leading professionals. Our colleagues are proud to bring their authentic selves to work, confident that what we do is grounded in a greater purpose. We’re always looking for curious, talented, and passionate people to join our team.
Who You’ll be Joining
The Smart Security backend team is responsible for safety critical services that drive ecobee’s Smart Security offering. This includes interacting with multiple devices within a given home to determine occupancy, and escalation to emergency services if incidents occur. We are also responsible for maintaining Smart Security subscriptions, bundles, and promotions with both internal and external teams.
A team that is responsible for real customer impact. We aren’t working on just another app or AI-enabled cat video generator; we are working on systems that keep people safe and secure. That is, you will make a real difference in people’s lives.
We integrate our backend services with both internal and external parties to provide even more benefits for our customers. For example, locking a supported smart door lock when a user arms their home or facilitating professional installation of our smart doorbell camera with a local contractor.
The team itself is small, energic, and agile and maintains a “how can I help?” attitude. Each team member is self-sufficient, you won’t be micromanaged. We are experts in working in a fast-paced environment. We are pulled in multiple directions by different stakeholders. You will never be bored while maintaining a work life balance. We interact daily with other teams across the organization including product, mobile, web, and business systems just to name a few. We have responsibilities across the entire organization via services that are used by all business units.
This role follows a hybrid schedule, with in-office work required on Wednesdays and Thursdays to support collaboration, and flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of the week.
How You’ll Make an Impact
As a Software Engineer on the Smart Security backend team, you’ll use leading edge technologies to innovate highly concurrent, server applications that directly impact ecobee’s success and our customer’s lives. We encourage the freedom to investigate and evaluate new technologies to solve complex problems. As a result, your input will have a significant impact on our company and objectives.
Each engineer on the team participates in design, implementation, and validation activities. We expect you to speak up and complain when something isn’t quite right. You dislike toil. You are full of new and innovative ways to improve both our code but also our ways of working.
What You’ll Bring to the Table
