The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our growing team. This is a critical role responsible for overseeing core financial operations including accounts payable, payroll, and grant reporting. You will play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and operational excellence, and contribute to scaling e-Zinc’s financial systems as the Company prepares for commercial growth.

Key Deliverables

  • Timely Month-End Close: Complete monthly close procedures within 5–7 business days, ensuring accuracy in journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals.
  • Grant Reporting: Consistently submit complete and accurate grant claims (e.g., SDTC, OBIN CommSci, NGEN) in accordance with deadlines and reporting standards, showcasing strong attention to detail and solid understanding of reporting requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: File GST/HST, WSIB, and EHT returns on a quarterly basis with full accuracy and compliance.
  • Process Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities for automation and implement improvements to reduce manual processing time by 15–20%.

Core Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality
  • Prepare weekly accounts payable runs
  • Submit timely and accurate grant claims with supporting documentation
  • Review and process employee expense reports using automation tools
  • Reconcile corporate bank accounts and credit card statements monthly
  • Maintain and reconcile the prepaid expense schedule and record amortization entries
  • Maintain capital asset schedules, calculate amortization, and post monthly entries
  • Prepare and file quarterly returns: GST/HST, EHT, WSIB
  • Support the annual financial audit by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries
  • Conduct annual reconciliations for EHT, RRSP contributions, and other benefit premiums
  • Assist with the preparation of internal financial statements and management reporting packages
  • Perform various ad hoc tasks as needed to support team objectives

Qualifications

Required:

  • Post-secondary education in accounting
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with QuickBooks and Ceridian or equivalent accounting and payroll software
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and month-end procedures

Additional Assets:

  • Payroll certification (PCP or equivalent)
  • Exposure to grant reporting
  • Passion for sustainability or clean energy
