About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled GIS Analyst to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for data analysis, mapping, and providing geospatial technical support to help meet our company's goals and projects. You will work on troubleshooting and developing solutions to optimize our products and services.

The ideal candidate has experience in GIS software development methodologies such as agile, scrum, and DevOps, and is proficient with Git and testing frameworks. You should be comfortable developing GIS applications across web, mobile, and desktop platforms, using technologies like Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, React, Leaflet, ArcGIS API, QGIS, and GDAL.

Knowledge of spatial data formats and protocols, including GeoJSON, Shapefile, KML, WMS, and WFS, is required. Additionally, experience with spatial databases like PostgreSQL, PostGIS, SQLite, and GeoPackage, as well as cloud computing platforms like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, is important.

Location: Head Office, Edmonton, AB, Canada.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collect, process, and analyze geospatial data to derive valuable insights and support decision-making processes.
  • Create high-quality geofences and visualizations using proprietary software to effectively support various partner solutions and integrations.
  • Conduct spatial analyses and modeling to address specific project requirements. Perform data quality checks and ensure the accuracy and consistency of GIS data.
  • Maintain the Drivewyze database, ensuring data accuracy and accessibility. Collaborate with others to integrate GIS data into project workflows and databases.
  • Generate reports and presentations that effectively convey GIS analysis results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Aid and guide colleagues and end-users to help them utilize Drivewyze Geofence and Mapping tools effectively.
  • Stay updated on GIS trends and technologies and propose innovative solutions to enhance system and service capabilities.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation and create knowledge base articles to assist others.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of our products and services to effectively address client needs and questions.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical problems, escalating complex issues when necessary and ensuring timely solutions.
  • Develop and maintain scripts and tools to automate tasks and increasing efficiency.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • GIS certification or professional accreditation is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of geospatial data management and spatial analysis techniques and familiarity with spatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS).
  • Knowledge of GPS/GNSS technology and data combined with familiarity with web mapping and geospatial web services.
  • Has proficiency in using various GIS software, tools, and platforms, such as ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth, and Mapbox, as well as programming languages, such as Python, R, or SQL, for developing and automating GIS workflows and applications.
  • Proficiency in database management, including knowledge of SQL and/or Postgress SQL.
  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages.
  • Previous experience with project management, strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific standards and best practices.
