Your role as Manager, Privacy

Reporting to the Director, Privacy Officer, and Counsel, you will be a key member of the Legal Team, ensuring the organization meets its privacy requirements in compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and data protection frameworks. You will collaborate with various departments to develop and implement privacy policies, procedures, and practices to safeguard personal data.

What you’ll be doing:

Legal and Regulatory Compliance:

    • Monitor relevant data protection, privacy, and cybersecurity laws and regulations in Canada, the US, the UK, and internationally
    • Develop, implement, and review privacy policies, procedures, and controls

Privacy-by-Design:

    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of business operations and initiatives to foster privacy-by-design principles in product lifecycle management

Risk Assessment and Mitigation:

    • Assess risks and formulate recommendations on mitigation measures and controls in response to daily privacy inquiries from various internal clients
    • Assist the business in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks on new projects

Privacy Controls and Training:

    • Design privacy controls and measure their effectiveness to identify opportunities for improvement
    • Provide guidance and training to employees on privacy and data protection matters
Audits and Assessments:
    • Conduct organizational risk assessments and audits to identify areas for improvement in privacy compliance.
    • Conduct privacy impact assessments

Privacy Tools and Incident Response:

    • Assist in the implementation of privacy tools to scale the global privacy program
    • Support privacy incident response procedures and manage post-mortem activities
    • Review and respond to client and vendor inquiries on data protection contracts

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a privacy manager, privacy counsel, or in a similar role
  • Strong understanding of relevant data protection, privacy, and security laws and regulations in Canada, the US, and the EU/UK
  • Proven experience in implementing privacy programs, conducting risk assessments and audits, and administering privacy software tools
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with other departments and stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and prioritize workload to achieve personal and company objectives
  • CIPP Certification is an asset
