The corporate environment is becoming increasingly litigious, with both local and multi-national disputes now commonplace. Fraud, conflicts of interest, corporate code-of-conduct violations, regulatory non-compliance, and other business misdemeanors are unfortunate realities that can negatively affect earnings and drain productivity and company morale.

Deloitte Forensic includes:

  • Disputes
  • Discovery
  • Analytics
  • Investigations
  • Advisory

What will your typical day look like?

Forensic practices help clients react quickly and confidently in a crisis, investigation, or dispute. Deloitte forensic specialists use their global network, deep industry experience, and advanced analytical technology to understand and resolve issues. They deliver the proactive advice clients need to reduce the risk of future problems.

What we do:

Disputes:

At any time during a dispute or crisis, Deloitte’s qualified expert witnesses provide an independent assessment of potential damages including those resulting from breach of contract and shareholder disputes, class actions, expropriation, and many others.

Our methodologies employ a risk-based approach, are underpinned by vigorous research and our breadth of experience. We make the complex, simple, leading the way to a successful dispute resolution

Discovery

With the proliferation of electronic data, companies are finding it increasingly difficult to identify the documents required to comply with regulatory requests, conduct investigations or resolve business disputes. As a leading provider of electronic discovery services in Canada, we offer a full end-to-end solution for clients, from collection, through document review, to the final production of documents.

We work on a variety of matters, including:

  • Civil litigation
  • Class actions
  • Competition Bureau inquiries, including responses to Requests For Information (RFIs) and Supplemental Information Requests (SIRs)
  • Corporate investigations
  • Diligence
  • Freedom of Information Requests for government and quasi-governmental organizations

Our professionals use a robust methodology to enhance the work of our document review teams while minimizing costs. Our discovery processes are supported by state-of the-art technology infrastructure that ensures the proper preservation, collection, identification, review, analysis and production of documents. Our goal is to help companies with their complete discovery needs, so that they can get back to business.

Analytics

Huge volumes of business data are nothing new. But the ways data can hurt you these days — well, that’s a different story. In an age when companies can rise or fall in a single lost email or a well-disguised trail, the way your organization manages ever-growing mountains of data can make the difference between a good day at the office and sheer disaster. You only get one chance to do it right.

Our analytics and forensic technology practice helps companies understand their data sources to assist them in making critical business decisions. When crisis strikes, we can investigate, gather and analyze all evidence needed to support or refute allegations. Our professionals are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge methodologies that enable them to apply their extensive experience in forensics, investigations, finance and law enforcement to deliver best-in-class computer forensics, data analytics and e-discovery solutions.

Investigations

In a forensic investigation, we use our advanced analytics capability and deep technical experience to help you quickly and efficiently address issues. We deploy sophisticated analytics approaches to gain a deeper and more complete understanding of what has occurred and how similar problems can be prevented. We also work proactively with you to detect inefficiencies and anomalies in your systems, targeting cost recovery and identifying potential issues before they happen.

Our specialists systematically scope, acquire, load, and validate structured and unstructured electronic data and call on various techniques to uncover evidence of schemes or scenarios, develop models that depict historical events, and build predictive models for anti-fraud/corruption efforts and segmentation.

Advanced and predictive analytics
Reducing risk through advanced analytics

Advanced and predictive analytics is a set of statistical tools and technology that uses current and historic data to predict future behaviour, and can be applied across different industry sectors. Done right and applied throughout a project, they can help organizations make decisions more accurately, objectively, and economically to ensure future success.

Using analytics in new ways to predict future outcomes can help your company mitigate several key risk areas, as well as reduce the possibility of complete project failure.
