The Role
The Technical Artist, Virtual Production & Unreal Engine is a dynamic role that combines technical artistry with hands-on operational expertise in a virtual production environment. This individual is responsible for both creating and modifying assets and managing the technical aspects of the smart stage during shooting. On set, the Technical Artist must efficiently handle a multitude of requests, ensuring seamless integration of virtual elements with live action. This role requires a blend of creativity, technical skill, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced production setting.


Core Responsibilities

  • Asset Creation and Modification:
    • Develop and modify digital assets for use in virtual production, ensuring they meet the creative and technical requirements of the project.
    • Collaborate with the creative team to design and implement visually stunning and technically sound assets.
  • On-Set Engine Operation:
    • Operate the smart stage's virtual production engine during shooting, ensuring smooth and efficient execution.
    • Respond swiftly and effectively to various on-set requests, adapting to the evolving needs of the production.
  • Technical Troubleshooting and Support:
    • Provide technical support on set, troubleshooting issues related to the virtual production engine and assets.
    • Ensure that all virtual elements function seamlessly with live-action components during shooting.
  • Workflow Optimization:
    • Continuously optimize and document workflows and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in asset creation and on-set operations.
    • Stay abreast of the latest developments in virtual production technology to implement best practices.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with other departments, including directors, cinematographers, and other technical teams, to ensure a cohesive production process.
    • Communicate effectively with team members to facilitate a collaborative and productive working environment.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Monitor the quality of virtual assets and real-time rendering, ensuring they align with the artistic vision and technical standards of the production.
    • Implement quality control measures to maintain high standards in virtual production outputs.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong technical proficiency in virtual production engines, particularly Unreal Engine.
  • Experience in asset creation, including modeling, texturing, and lighting.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and adapt to changing requirements on set.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and technical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Familiarity with the workflow and operational requirements of a smart stage environment.

Desired Experience

  • Previous experience in a similar role within a virtual production or real-time environment.
  • A portfolio showcasing technical artistry and proficiency in virtual production technologies.
