Job Summary:
D2L is looking for a Communications Manager to help build brand awareness through public relations efforts, working cross-functionally across multiple departments at D2L, to develop and execute integrated communications plans to help D2L tell its story through a variety of channels, outlets, and stakeholders.
This is an amazing opportunity to work alongside the Executive Communications Director and support strategic decision-making relating to D2L’s growing global business. We are looking for a proactive, creative self-starter with a savvy ability to reach global audiences.
Please Note: This is an 18-month contract position. Target start date is December 2, 2024.
How You Will Make an Impact:
Support The Execution, And Delivery of Global PR Activities:
- Develop, innovate and execute traditional and digital PR activities including but not limited to global general interest media, special events, thought leadership, etc. to help capture the attention of the D2L’s target audience.
- Write press releases, bylines, talking points, speaking proposals, award submissions, email Q&As, articles, speeches, and other communication materials to effectively convey D2L’s messages.
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets using strong networking and negotiation skills.
- Analyze data and metrics to measure the effectiveness of PR campaigns and make data-driven decisions.
- Collaborate with the company’s public relations agencies globally.
- Work with D2L’s sales team to develop a strong customer reference funnel for PR activities.
- Collaborate across functions to ensure the PR and corporate communications functions are integral to the overall marketing effort.
Crisis Communications:
- Help create crisis communications strategies and react to issues that arise
- Draft and distribute time-sensitive notifications
- Monitor customer and public sentiment on social media
- Turn technical language into customer communications notes that resonate
What You'll Bring to the Role:
- 5+ years of experience in print journalism or PR
- Professional services experience and journalism background are a plus
- Ability to plan, execute, and manage multiple public relations initiatives simultaneously
- Strong news writing, editing (AP style) and proofreading abilities
- Proven experience in external communications including crisis communications
- Strong track record of media pitching and placement
- International PR experience would be a strong asset
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple simultaneous projects
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Exceptionally organized and detail oriented
- Flexible, positive and a self-starter with ongoing enthusiastic interest
- Ability to be accountable, meet deadlines, multi-task and work under pressure
- Familiarity and skills with WordPress, Notion, and Jira
- Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
Education Recommendations:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or a related discipline

The expected base salary range for a new hire in this role is listed below. The annualized base salary offered is determined by each candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, education, training and experience. It is aligned to ensure both internal and external competitiveness using market data for the geographic location and industry. As part of the total compensation at D2L the role may be eligible for additional benefits including a Wellness Subsidy, Equity Grants, Variable Incentive, and more.
