JOB SUMMARY:

The Legal Administrator will assist with legal research, regulatory and contract analysis, corporate file management, department metrics, training development, as well as working with technologies such as PowerBI, Confluence, Jira, and SharePoint.

This is an opportunity to gain real-life, hands-on experience in an in-house legal department with a rapidly growing technology company. The position is part of a collaborative, team-based approach to corporate legal services.

HOW WILL I MAKE AN IMPACT?

  • Document Management:
    • Assist in preparing, formatting, proofreading, and finalizing legal documents such as contracts, NDAs, and corporate agreements.
    • Track legal documents through the execution process, ensuring proper signatures, timely approvals, and accurate filing.
    • Collaborating with the department to create an electronic strategic knowledge centre (help articles, precedent files, clause libraries) and internal company training materials
  • Contract and Compliance Coordination:
    • Monitor contract lifecycles, including renewals, expirations, and necessary updates.
    • Coordinate with various departments (Sales, HR, Procurement, etc.) to gather required documents and information as needed for legal documents and activities.
    • Assist in maintaining compliance with regulatory filings and registrations.
  • Legal Research:
    • Conduct legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and best practices as required.
    • Compile and summarize information for use in legal projects or meetings.
  • Project Coordination:
    • Support legal projects and initiatives, coordinating activities across departments and external stakeholders.
    • Assist with special projects, including procedure development, training programs, and contract management system improvements.
  • Communication:
    • Serve as the point of contact for the legal department, fielding internal inquiries and routing requests to the appropriate legal team member.
    • Liaise with external law firms and legal vendors, managing communications and ensuring timely responses.
  • Administrative Support:
    • Provide administrative assistance to the members of the legal team which may include managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and preparing legal correspondence.
    • Handle travel arrangements, expense reports, and other clerical duties.
    • Maintain organized filing systems for legal documents, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with internal policies.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE ROLE:

  • Excellent analytic, oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Comfortable learning new technologies and putting those new skills into practice.
  • Experience with technologies such as Salesforce, SharePoint, Confluence and Jira is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and with cross functional teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including thoughtfulness, a positive attitude and the ability to develop strong relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong commitment to ethical conduct.
  • Collaborative mindset and creativity.
  • Certification as legal assistant is preferred.

Location Information: Our ideal candidate is located in Ontario and is able to come into our Kitchener Office on occasion.

The expected base salary range for a new hire in this role is listed below. The annualized base salary offered is determined by each candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, education, training and experience. It is aligned to ensure both internal and external competitiveness using market data for the geographic location and industry. As part of the total compensation at D2L the role may be eligible for additional benefits including a Wellness Subsidy, Equity Grants, Variable Incentive, and more.

Base Salary Range
$48,000$52,000 CAD
