Job Summary:

The Tax Manager at D2L will both lead and support various areas within D2L’s global tax function. The Tax Manager will oversee D2L’s global commodity tax function to ensure that the D2L group of companies complies in each applicable jurisdiction. The Tax Manager will also support D2L’s global income tax compliance and tax provision function to comply with D2L’s external audit requirements for the preparation of both its consolidated financial statements and statutory financial statements for certain local jurisdictions. The Tax Manager will further support D2L’s transfer pricing function by developing transfer pricing strategy and assisting in the preparation of transfer pricing compliance. The Tax Manager will conduct and summarize tax research to strengthen D2L’s global tax position, maximize optimal tax asset utilization and preservation, and identify and mitigate potential tax risks associated with evolving tax legislation.

How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Oversee D2L’s global commodity tax compliance function, including the preparation of tax returns in a timely and accurate manner, ensure related payments are made, and liaise with external tax advisers as needed
  • Oversee EMEA and APAC regions corporate income tax compliance, liaise with external tax advisors, prepare necessary workpapers, and ensure proper tax payments are made on a timely basis
  • Prepare or peer review the quarterly and annual global income tax provisions under IFRS, ensuring proper documentation is maintained and tax journal entries are properly recognized
  • Identify, mitigate and raise corporate awareness of tax risks and compliance issues through corporate education and review of key business activities and agreements
  • Collaborate with the finance department and external auditors to support the company’s external reporting requirements on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Conduct detailed analyses to support and justify the pricing policies applied to transactions between related business entities across different tax jurisdictions
  • Support key business stakeholders with sound tax analysis, impact, and strategy as the company expands into new international jurisdictions
  • Support the proposal and global deal desk teams by serving as an in-house tax specialist in commodity tax matters, as required, to complete successful proposals and/or bids
  • Support business units outside of Finance by responding to tax specific queries, including global mobility and government incentive programs
  • Keep abreast of relevant worldwide tax developments and disseminate impacts to affected stakeholders

What You'll Bring to the Role:

  • 5+ years of tax experience (domestic and/or international)
  • Strong technical knowledge of corporate income tax preparation and commodity/sales tax
  • Knowledge of Transfer Pricing is an asset
  • Highly motivated and self-driven attitude
  • Capable of working independently and proactively
  • Keen problem-solving, detailed-oriented nature, and critical-thinking skills to navigate an evolving global tax environment
  • Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to clearly and succinctly convey complex tax information and/or tax positions to support the company’s global business strategy
  • Strong ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Reliable and credible source of tax knowledge by keeping up-to-date with new tax legislations and developments
  • Past experience working in the technology industry and/or public company environment is an asset

Education Recommendations:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, economic or related field
  • Master’s degree in accounting, business, economics or related field is an asset
  • CPA designation or equivalent
  • Completion of In-Depth tax program I, II & III

The expected base salary range for a new hire in this role is listed below. The annualized base salary offered is determined by each candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, education, training and experience. It is aligned to ensure both internal and external competitiveness using market data for the geographic location and industry. As part of the total compensation at D2L the role may be eligible for additional benefits including a Wellness Subsidy, Equity Grants, Variable Incentive, and more.

Base Salary Range
$94,000$121,000 CAD
