Position Summary
The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of mechanical engineers in the design, development, and testing of mechanical systems and products. This role involves resources and project planning, budget management, technical oversight, and ensuring projects meet industry standards and customer requirements. The manager will work closely with other departments to coordinate efforts and streamline operations.
Position Responsibilities
- Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify areas for professional development.
- Project Management
- Oversee and manage the mechanical portion of engineering projects, including planning, design, development, testing, and implementation.
- Develop project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring projects meet deadlines and financial targets.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, such as production, quality assurance, and procurement, to align on project goals.
- Technical Oversight
- Provide technical guidance and direction on engineering best practices, design specifications, and industry standards.
- Review engineering designs, calculations, and specifications to ensure quality and safety.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, leveraging new technologies and methodologies where appropriate
- Quality and Compliance
- Ensure that all designs and products comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement quality assurance measures to minimize product or process issues.
- Oversee testing and validation of prototypes and final products to confirm performance and reliability.
- Budget and Resource Management
- Manage the budget for the mechanical portion of engineering projects, and optimize resource allocation while controlling costs.
- Negotiate with suppliers, vendors, and contractors to secure materials and services within budget constraints.
- Ensure that tools, software, and equipment used by the team are up-to-date and properly maintained.
- Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare regular reports and presentations for upper management, outlining project status, accomplishments, challenges, and successes.
- Document engineering processes, project progress, and lessons learned to improve future project efficiency.
- Customer and Stakeholder Relations
- Act as the primary point of contact for customers and stakeholders regarding project status and technical questions.
- Participate in customer meetings, site visits, and technical presentations as needed.
Position Qualifications
We are seeking a highly motivated business professional with qualifications that include:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 20+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
- Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, ANSYS).
- Strong understanding of industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Excellent project management skills, including experience with budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills
- Background in product development, particularly in automotive or off-road equipment
