ABOUT COOLIT SYSTEMS INC.

Founded in Calgary, Alberta in 2001, CoolIT Systems is the leading Direct Liquid Cooling technology provider for data centers, supercomputers, and desktop computers. We design and manufacture solutions used by the largest tech companies globally.

Recognized as one of “The Americas’ Fastest Growing Companies 2023” by Financial Times and honored with the Deloitte Fast 50 Clean Technology award in 2022, as well as the Deloitte Fast 500 distinction in both 2021 and 2022, CoolIT's rapid growth is capturing global attention.

As demand for generative AI, high performance computing and cloud solutions rapidly expands, there has never been a more exciting time to join our team.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Role:

The Liquid Cooling Infrastructure Technical Lead will work within the TCS Team is accountable for end-to-end mechanical design and engineering execution of facility side / data hall side liquid cooling infrastructure packages (headers, spools, valve trains, filtration, buffer/expansion, drip trays, leak detection integration, install readiness). The role owns technical scope, drives design maturity, leads design reviews/sign-off, and ensures required documentation is created, released, and complete.

This role operates with minimal supervision and is expected to act as the principal mechanical design owner for awarded TCS programs, including coordinating external engineering support when specialized skills/tools are needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the mechanical technical solution for TCS scope (architecture, detailed design, install-ready package).
  • Convert customer requirements into a buildable design and clearly bounded scope (including interface points, responsibilities, and exclusions per SoW), proactively identifying/mitigating gaps and risks.
  • Lead mechanical system definition for TCS packages (header spools, connection components, valve trains, filtration, buffer/expansion, drip trays, leak detection integration).
  • Provide technical guidance and design expertise to project team during project execution, failure investigations, and root cause analyses.
  • Drive design reviews, sign-off, and technical decision-making; provide guidance/instruction to supporting designers/engineers.
  • Drive engineering execution & analyses that are specifically called out as risk items for the TCS scope (fluid & thermal expansion, piping pressure stress, etc.)
  • Own creation and completion of required documentation packages (P&IDs, interface/layout drawings, install analysis, BOM readiness inputs, as-built readiness).
  • Proactively identify control related hazards and failure modes early in design. Ensures risks are mitigated through design analysis methods such as; Single Point of Failure/DFMEA.
  • Ensure designs are aligned with manufacturing, service, and compliance requirements, not just functional intent.
  • Support install/commissioning readiness by defining mounting/bracketing, mechanical loading/moments/alignment requirements at connection ports, and site execution assumptions.
  • Support production and field issues, including on-site, through deep system‑level troubleshooting and corrective action definition.
  • Partner with Supply Chain to support component selection and cost-down for valve trains and major hardware packages; confirm control expectations where needed.

WHO YOU ARE:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • A PEng registration that is current and in good standing is mandatory for this role.
  • Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience leading mechanical design deliverables end to end for industrial fluid & HVAC systems.
  • Poses deep working knowledge of UL/ CSA Safety Standards, ASME Piping Codes, Seismic Standards & Installation Codes.
  • Demonstratable experience using Solidworks, Autodesk Revit BIM.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Poses deep working knowledge of UL/ CSA Safety Standards, ASME Piping Codes, Seismic Standards & Installation Codes.

Skills:

  • Comfortable coordinating external engineering resources when specialized tools/standards are required.
  • Ability to prioritize and pivot effectively when new information arises under time pressure while maintaining system safety, quality, and reliability expectations.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail.
