WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Role:

The Senior R&D Specialist is a key member of the Advanced Technology Team, working closely with a collaborative, forward‑thinking group to advance thermal and mechanical system innovation. Reporting to the Advanced Technology Manager, this role leads the research, development, and validation of advanced thermal management technologies for high‑performance computing and enterprise server applications. The position focuses on driving liquid‑cooling innovation through simulation, prototyping, and cross‑functional collaboration, while also providing technical leadership, supporting strategic initiatives, and mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities:

• Lead advanced research initiatives in thermal engineering, with a focus on electronic cooling solutions for high-performance computing and enterprise server applications.
• Drive the development of innovative technologies and intellectual property that strengthen CoolIT’s market leadership in liquid cooling systems.
• Plan and execute complex CFD, FEA, and Multiphysics simulations to guide early-stage concept validation and design optimization.
• Oversee the transition of new concepts into product development by coordinating with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and product management.
• Act as a technical lead in joint development programs with strategic customers and technology partners, ensuring alignment on performance, manufacturability, and integration goals.
• Design and validate comprehensive component- and system-level testing plans to evaluate thermal performance and reliability.
• Lead prototyping activities and conduct hands-on testing, ensuring test methodologies align with industry standards and internal objectives.
• Review and interpret simulation and test data to provide actionable recommendations for design refinement and project direction.
• Guide the design of product concepts, perform DFM reviews, and collaborate with vendors to assess and implement emerging technologies. Champion a culture of innovation by mentoring junior team members, sharing best practices, and fostering a collaborative technical environment.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency by developing and implementing automation tools and methodologies across workflows.

Basic Qualifications:

• MSs, or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering with focus on thermal/Fluid.
• 7+ Years of relevant experience in cooling technology design and testing.
• Previous experience in thermal-fluid design and analysis.
• Previous in-depth experience with design of experiments, experimental setup, and data acquisition.
• Familiar with flow boiling in micro channels.
• Previous experience in selection and evaluation of pumps, heat exchanger for cooling units.
• Previous experience in the lab environment for maintenance of equipment, sensor calibration and data acquisitions.
• Expert level proficiency in CAD design using SolidWorks.
• Expert level proficiency in CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics).
• Proficiency in programming and developing coding (preferably in Python).
• Passionate about new technologies and a self-learner.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience working with data center cooling strategies.
• Previous experience working with direct liquid cooling, specially pumped two-phase loops with refrigerants and evaporative cooling.
• Experience with developing custom codes in LabVIEW.
• Good understanding of Hydronics system designs and solid understanding of fluid dynamics and heat transfer principles.
• Proficient in design, simulation, and selection of Heat exchangers and pumps.
• Create detailed mechanical designs & drawings.
