WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Role:
An exciting and challenging position exists as a Thermal Mechanical Engineer at CoolIT’s office in Taipei, Taiwan. This position will be reporting to the Consumer Product Engineering Manager and will lead the innovative design and development of active cooling loops for cutting-edge desktop liquid cooling products.
Responsibilities:
- Lead Manufacturing Feasibility and DFM Collaborations: Collaborate with Contract Manufacturers (CMs) across Asia, providing real-time feedback on Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and feasibility assessments. This role requires frequent travel to ensure design intent is effectively communicated and implemented on-site, bridging gaps between the engineering team and CMs.
- First Article Inspection (FAI) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) Oversight: Serve as the key reviewer for First Article Inspections and PPAPs, ensuring early-stage prototypes and production parts meet engineering specifications. This responsibility demands attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with opportunities for hands-on involvement at the manufacturing sites.
- End-to-End Prototype and Sample Review: Drive the review of prototypes and samples from early development through to production. Identify and resolve design-to-manufacturing challenges, ensuring seamless integration between design intentions and physical production capabilities. Requires regular travel to oversee on-site evaluations and build reviews in China, Vietnam, and other Asian countries.
- Mechanical Design and Packaging Expertise: Support the engineering team with detailed CAD modeling, drafting, tolerance analysis, and packaging design. This role requires proficiency in mechanical design, with the ability to provide hands-on drafting support and ensure manufacturability of functional parts, cosmetic parts, and packaging.
- Cross-Functional Communication and Project Management: Act as a liaison between design, engineering, and manufacturing teams, ensuring clear and effective communication across all stakeholders. Manage project timelines, coordinate across multiple teams, and facilitate problem solving on-site, contributing to smooth project execution and reducing turnaround times.
WHO YOU ARE:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Material Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in CAD and simulation software (e.g., SolidWorks, Celsius EC, Macroflow) for detailed mechanical designs and performance optimization.
- Strong understanding of various manufacturing processes, including injection molding, machining, casting, coating, and printing.
- Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and testing of thermal/mechanical components, including familiarity with 3D printing, casting, and lab equipment for data collection.
- Proven ability to design components for mass production using diverse manufacturing methods and engineering principles (Statistical tolerance analysis, GD&T, DFMEA).
- Strong project management and communication skills, with a proven ability to lead cross functional teams, manage timelines, and work on-site with Contract Manufacturers.
- Willingness to travel frequently within Asia to support prototype builds, manufacturing activities, and ensure smooth collaboration with international teams.
- Ability to travel within the Asia region 25-35% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, preferably in the consumer electronics industry, with a focus on mechanical design and hardware development; familiarity with PDP, NPI, PLM and PDM.
- Strong understanding of fluid/thermal dynamics principles
Skills:
- Excellent soft skills such as patience, active listening, organization, communication, empathy, time management, and problem-solving
- Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail
