Cohere is focused on building and deploying large language model (LLM) AI into enterprises in a safe and responsible way that drives human productivity, and creates magical new ways to interact with technology and real business value. Cohere was founded by three global leaders in AI development, including our CEO, Aidan Gomez, who co-created the Transformer, which makes LLMs possible. Collectively, we're driven by the belief that our technology has the potential to revolutionize the way enterprises, their employees, and customers engage with technology through language.

Cohere’s broader research team is world-renowned, having contributed to the development of sentence transformers for semantic search, dynamic adversarial data collection and red teaming, and retrieval augmented generation, often referred to as “RAG,” among other technological breakthroughs.

We have been deliberate in assembling a team of operational leaders with industry-leading experience, with backgrounds working at the most sophisticated, demanding, and respected enterprises in the world. Cohere’s operational leaders have built, scaled, and led multi-billion product lines and businesses at Google, Apple, Rakuten, YouTube, AWS, and Cisco.

The Cohere team is a collective from all walks of life, from people who left college to start businesses, to some of the most experienced people from globally renowned companies. About the team:

The Self-Serve team owns and designs an intuitive and uncharted user experience in language AI. They work on Cohere’s Playground, billing, and fine-tune model experiences.

Please Note: We have offices in Toronto, San Francisco, and London. We embrace a remote-friendly environment, and as part of this approach, we strategically distribute teams based on interests, expertise, and time zones to promote collaboration and flexibility. You'll find the Self-Serve team concentrated in the EST and EMEA time zones.

As a Senior Backend Product Engineer, you will:

• Work with a small but ambitious team of product engineers, designers, and product managers
• Ship delightful experiences for our user-facing products, meticulously crafting server code and occasionally code for browsers
• Own and build robust services-oriented web experiences, our backend stack includes: Golang
• Build internal tooling (CI/CD, dev utilities) to move faster together
• Keep up with the cutting edge and adopt new technologies to improve performance and reliability

You may be a good fit if:

• You’ve shipped fast and snappy web apps loved by many users
• You’re excited to add new technologies to your toolbox and use them where it makes sense
• You care about bringing value to our users - It’s not just about chasing the latest tech stack. You understand the balance between craft and speed
• You have an entrepreneurial spirit and an ambition to scale a company
• You have previous experience in Go, Python or other languages for developing backend services

Upcoming projects include:

• Work with teammates in both technical and non-technical roles, including engineers, product staff, and policy & operations staff to craft new product features
• Mitigate security issues and implement fraud mitigation measure on our web facing properties
• Improving the customer experience for payments and authentication
