As a key member of the Finance team, the Controller will be responsible for maintaining financial integrity through accounting oversight & financial reporting, ensuring compliance with tax and audit requirements, treasury cash flow management and payroll. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, this role is key to supporting decision-making and providing strategic financial guidance to drive the company’s growth and long-term financial sustainability. This role will be filled by a proven leader who has the ability to inspire and elevate their team members.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Financial Reporting:
    • Oversee the preparation and accuracy of the company’s financial statements, ensuring compliance with Canadian accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE) and other regulatory requirements.
    • Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
    • Review and approve financial reports, variance analysis, and management presentations.
  • Accounting Oversight:
    • Lead and mentor a team of two (2) financial professionals to ensure accuracy, completeness & integrity of financial information
    • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, payroll, & other GL functions
    • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Compliance and Audit:
    • Ensure timely and accurate filing of financial statements, tax returns, SRED claims, IRAP, and other statutory filings and grants.
    • Manage external audits and collaborate with auditors to ensure compliance with all regulations and internal policies.
  • Cash Flow Management:
    • Oversee cash flow forecasting and liquidity management to support operations and strategic goals.
    • Monitor working capital to ensure optimal cash management and profitability.
  • System and Process Improvements:
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in accounting systems, tools, and processes to increase efficiency and scalability.
    • Evaluate and implement software solutions to streamline accounting workflows, financial reporting & analytics.
  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership to support strategic planning and operational decision-making.
    • Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment between financial goals and overall business objectives.
    • Provide strategic insights & decision-making to support key initiatives including operational efficiency, pricing strategies & growth opportunities.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:

  • CPA designation
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in finance and accounting, with at least 3 years in a management role
  • Experience in a SaaS or technology-focused company is strongly preferred
  • Proven track record of managing financial reporting and compliance in a high-growth, fast-paced environment
  • Strong understanding of ASPE and financial accounting principles
  • Strong attention to detail, with a high degree of accuracy and reliability in financial reporting & analysis
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to communicate complex financial concepts in a clear and concise manner to non-financial stakeholders
  • Ability to lead and develop a high-performing team while managing multiple priorities
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships across all levels of the organization
