We are seeking a passionate and experienced Game Design (with Unreal Engine) Bootcamp Instructor to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of industry-ready software developers. The ideal candidate should possess a strong foundation in Unreal Engine for prototyping purposes. The Game Design Bootcamp Instructor will have the exciting opportunity to impart industry knowledge, foster creative thinking, and guide students in honing their game design skills.
Ideal candidates will be available to work part-time (average 8-10 hours per week) in the evenings. The fixed price contract for this position is CAD 1,450 per month (for 30 weeks course). This position is open candidates based in Pacific or Mountain time zones in Canada with the opportunity to work 100% remote. The next cohort courses will be taught in 2.5 hour time slots 2 times per week from May to December.
Responsibilities
- Lead engaging and comprehensive classroom sessions, workshops, and hands-on projects related to game design, utilizing a learner-centered approach.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of the game design curriculum, ensuring it remains current, relevant, and aligned with industry trends.
- Provide constructive feedback, guidance, and mentorship to students as they ideate, prototype, and iterate on their game design projects.
- Offer personalized tutoring and support to students, assisting them in overcoming challenges and optimizing their game design projects.
- Showcase proficiency in using Unreal Engine for game prototyping, offering demonstrations and tutorials to students, or actively learn and apply Unreal Engine prototyping skills.
- Share real-world experiences, case studies, and insights from the game development industry to offer students a holistic understanding of the field.
- Collaborate with fellow instructors, industry professionals, and other departments to create interdisciplinary learning opportunities and enhance the overall educational experience.
- Design, administer, and grade assessments that accurately measure student understanding and progress within the course.
- Stay updated with industry advancements, emerging technologies, and best practices in game design to continuously enhance your own skills and instruction techniques.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 of professional experience in the game development industry, with a proven track record of successful game design projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Game Design, Game Development, Computer Science, or a related field of education.
- Expertise: Proficiency in game design principles, mechanics, and narrative. Demonstrable experience with Unreal Engine for game prototyping or a strong commitment to rapidly acquire this skill.
- Instructional Abilities: Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to convey complex concepts in an accessible and engaging manner.
- Creativity: Innate creative thinking and the ability to inspire and nurture creativity in students.
- Playtesting and Iteration: Strong understanding of playtesting methodologies and iterative player-centric design processes, and the ability to guide students in implementing these principles.
- Mentorship: A passion for guiding and mentoring students, fostering their growth, and providing meaningful feedback.
- Adaptability: Willingness to adapt to evolving curriculum needs, industry trends, and emerging technologies.
