Position Scope

As a Lab Analyst your role is to conduct special research projects for Plant Operations as well as support to Technology Development, Plant Engineering and Commercial Projects teams. Your primary focus will be to support research analysis for process chemist and engineers, facilitate lab test campaigns related to process and equipment development, and future plant design. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining the quality control program.

This position is M-F, 40hrs/week. The 9/80 schedule is also offered to allow flexibility.

This position is based in Squamish, BC.

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Demonstrate a positive safety culture within the laboratory and broader Plant Operations team.
  • Maintain the laboratory in a safe condition in line with all applicable regulations.
  • Identify, report, and resolve unsafe conditions, processes, or actions within the workplace.
  • Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents, and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.
  • Keep current/up to date on all training requirements.
  • Ensure all laboratory chemicals and gas supplies are stored in a safe manner in line with applicable regulations.
  • Ensure proper PPE is worn and maintained when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research to support process chemist and engineers on specific laboratory research projects.
  • Provides specialized analytical support to operations and processing engineering.
  • Validates new instrument prior to being used for the measurements.
  • Develop and conduct method validation studies prior to issuing the test methods.
  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for laboratory operations and conduct continuous method audit on published SOP’s.
  • Ensure all routine results and documentation are of high quality with data integrity traceability requirements including review of SPCS charts and investigations of out-of-specification, generate deviation reports and corrective actions.
  • Manages and maintains the calibration, verification or adjustment frequency based on the reliability of the instrument, the operating conditions and manufacturer recommendations including regular maintenance.
  • Ensure all routine results and documentation are of high quality with data integrity traceability requirements including review of SPCS charts and investigations of out-of-specification, generate deviation reports and corrective actions.
  • Foster and maintain a positive culture within the Plant Operations team; promote effective teamwork effort, a questioning mindset, and recognize failure as a learning opportunity.
  • Supports routine plant sampling and analysis as required.
  • Complete training requirements for CE processes and gain a critical understanding of plant systems, process fundamentals, and plant operations.
  • Maintain the laboratory in a clean, tidy, and serviceable condition including managing sample waste disposal.
  • Oversee laboratory functions and supervise lab technicians in the absence of the lab supervisor.

Education and Experience

  • Education: BSc in Chemistry
  • Experience: Five (5) or more years in an analytical laboratory and/or field sampling, preferably in oil and gas, water treatment or similar environment considered an asset.
  • Experience performing Chromatography and ICP-OES/ICP-MS is considered an asset.
  • Exposure to lab and operating plant at a pilot or industrial scale is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of related safety and WHMIS regulations.

Compensation:

  • $62,730 to $86,100 Base Salary
