BIOVECTRA Inc. is a leading bio-science business in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, focused on contract manufacturing and product development of active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceutical intermediates, and bioreagents.

BIOVECTRA Inc. has an opening for Process Development Scientist, Biologics. This is a permanent, full-time position located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Collaborate in a fast-paced CDMO developing commercial processes to produce innovative biologics, in particular nucleic acids.
  • Carrying out literature searches and summaries as appropriate; designing new experimental approaches and preparing research plans.
  • Performing and documenting experiments thoroughly in the areas of fermentation, chromatographic purification, and other bioprocessing steps at lab scale.
  • Participating in the scale-up and tech transfer from laboratory to the pilot plant or manufacturing scale as an active member of the project team.
  • Preparing and presenting technical summaries of experiments for internal and external client stakeholders, including tech. transfer and preparation of reports.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of a cross-functional team with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Assisting in writing or reviewing work instructions, Batch Production Records, SOPs and other protocols, and scientific progress reports.
  • Provide technical input in the evaluation of client project proposals to determine feasibility.
  • Training and supervising of research assistants or summer students if needed.
  • Following the company’s quality and safety standards (quality management system procedures and safety practices for the laboratory and manufacturing facilities).
  • Additional duties assigned, based on business needs and the department supervisor’s request.

The successful candidate for this position should have:

  • MSc degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or closely related fields. PhD degree is an asset.
  • Experience with enzymatic reactions, pDNA, or mRNA production and purification processes is an asset.
  • Knowledge of biochemistry and molecular biology techniques related to synthetic biology (design of genetic constructs, primer design, PCR, microbial transformation, gene editing, cloning and production of recombinant proteins etc.) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Design of experiments (DoE) is an asset.
