About the Role

We’re looking for a Head of Legal to build BioRender’s legal function as a strategic partner to our leadership, product, and go-to-market teams. This role will oversee all aspects of legal while playing a critical role in shaping our approach to AI, intellectual property, and product innovation. As an individual contributor, you’ll operate at the intersection of law, technology, and business—bringing clear, pragmatic guidance to complex and evolving challenges.

What you’ll be doing

  • Serve as a trusted strategic partner to leadership, Product, and GTM teams on legal, regulatory, and business decisions—particularly related to AI, IP, and copyright
  • Develop BioRender pov on copyright and IP issues related to AI image generation and use in scientific publishing
  • Own and oversee all aspects of the legal function, building scalable processes and frameworks
  • Develop and implement an AI-forward approach to legal operations, leveraging technology to improve efficiency, insight, and impact
  • Oversee wide range of commercial agreements, including AI SaaS contracts and other technology-related agreements

What you bring to the table

  • A law degree from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice law and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction and able to practice in California or New York
  • In-house experience as product counsel at a SaaS or technology company; experience with AI-driven products is a strong plus
  • Exceptional judgment, communication skills, and the ability to simplify complex legal concepts for cross-functional teams
  • A builder mindset with comfort operating as a solo legal leader in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
