BiblioCommons is looking for a driven Director of Finance to lead financial planning, reporting, and performance management, while providing strategic guidance to support growth and profitability. In this role, you’ll also oversee legal and contracts and provide support across G&A functions, helping ensure the business runs smoothly as it scales.
Job Description:
The Director of Finance will be a key member of the leadership team, responsible for overseeing all financial activities of BiblioCommons. This role includes financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The Director will provide strategic financial guidance to support the company’s growth and profitability objectives.
This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for additional General & Administrative (G&A) functions, primarily ownership of legal and contracts, oversight of general administration, and support of culture and HR initiatives in partnership with operating group HR.
High energy, motivation, initiative, and drive are a must. A successful candidate will not be afraid to get into the details, will be highly analytical, have excellent communication skills, and be able to work effectively with stakeholders across the company. Experience in technology is a plus.
Salary Range
$115,000 to $130,000 CAD
Base salary will be commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning and Strategy:
• Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the company’s business objectives.
• Provide recommendations to enhance financial performance and identify business opportunities.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
• Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads.
• Provide regular financial forecasts and variance analysis.
Financial Reporting:
• Review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in compliance with IFRS.
• Present financial statements and insights to management.
Risk Management and Compliance:
• Oversee compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
• Identify and mitigate financial risks through effective internal controls.
G&A Oversight:
• Own the legal and contracts function, including oversight of external counsel and contract lifecycle management.
• Ensure appropriate governance, risk management, and documentation standards.
• Provide oversight of general administrative functions in a remote-first environment.
• Partner with operating group HR to support select culture and HR initiatives, as needed.
Team Management and Development:
• Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals, setting performance goals and conducting regular evaluations.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the finance function.
Financial Analysis and KPIs:
• Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
• Monitor and analyze key performance indicators to measure the company’s financial health.
Tax Planning and Compliance:
• Oversee sales tax planning strategies and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (CPA preferred).
• 5–10 years of progressive experience in finance, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards; familiarity with IFRS (notably IFRS 15 and 16).
• Experience overseeing legal/contracts or broader G&A functions is an asset, but not required.
• Proficiency in financial software and advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
