What's it like on the Finance team at Bench?

Finance at Bench is different. We’re no regular back-office afterthought. In this role you’ll have an opportunity to expand your skill-set and knowledge base on a daily basis, knowing that your contribution is driving our business forward. No one day is the same.

We’re a close-knit team, driven and committed to making sure Bench has what it needs to succeed. From payroll, accounting, treasury and legal, to strategy, financial planning and analysis, we have a broad portfolio that engages with every part of our business. We enjoy solving problems through communicating with radical openness and collaboration – all ideas are welcomed.

As our Payroll Specialist, you’ll play a key role in supporting Bench and our people through full-cycle payroll processing and compliance reporting. This is an opportunity to deepen your hands-on experience in both Payroll, Human Resources and the Accounting and Finance world.

What you’ll get up to:

  • Using your eye for detail to process semi-monthly and off-cycle Canadian pay runs for 500+ employees.
  • Utilizing your data-driven approach to reconcile payroll records and prepare reports as needed.
  • Posting payroll journal entries to the general ledger to ensure costs are allocated to the correct accounts and cost centers and assisting with month-end reporting and analysis of payroll-related costs.
  • Administering quarterly remittances and annual reporting for BC Employer Health Tax and Canadian Workers Compensation coverage.
  • Preparing year-end payroll reporting (reconciliations and T4/T4A tax form preparation).
  • Providing administrative support with:
    • issuing Record of Employment forms
    • managing expense reimbursements through Expensify
    • leave of absence cases, administration and calculations
    • keeping payroll policies and procedures up to date
    • inquiries from various payroll key partners, including current and former employees, and resolving payroll issues in an accurate, timely and confidential manner
  • Contributing to continuous improvements through identifying system enhancements, and new functionality to improve the efficiency, quality, and usability of our payroll system.

What you'll need:

  • 1+ years of Canadian payroll experience
  • University degree or College diploma in a related program or equivalent experience
  • PCP Canadian payroll certification (or working towards it)
  • A positive can-do attitude and impeccable work ethic
  • Superb communication skills
  • Exceptionally well organized and highly attentive to detail
  • Proven ability to assess and improve processes
  • Strong integrity and desire to help internal and external business partners meet their needs

It could be an even better fit if you:

  • US payroll experience is a bonus
  • Experience with Ultimate Software, Expensify and NetSuite is a bonus
  • Experience in bookkeeping/accounting/finance functions is a bonus

  • Whether you get to use the office or if you work remotely, you’ll have access to our Home Office Setup Fund to ensure that you have everything you need to work comfortably from home, from day one.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to work from somewhere other than your home province for up to 3 months, within a 12 month period.
