Summary
As a part of our development team, you will learn and work on a range of mission-critical firmware projects. These may include communications technologies and protocols between our drones and their remote pilot interface; integration of hardware and firmware systems from our technology partners; and engineering tools to make our development and deployment processes more efficient.
Responsibilities
· Develop end-to-end firmware/software features for the aerial robotic system, which includes the autonomous autopilot system, navigational sensor systems, and other on-board computers
· Assist in building and validating performance models of our various airframe configurations
· Create tooling to enable automation in key development areas, potentially including testing, data analysis, and operations workflows
· Cooperate with the operations team to participate in drone field testing, verify new features, tune operating parameters, and develop testing programs
· Analyze our flight recorder data to produce performance reports as required
· Create documentation for the new features, processes, tools, etc.
Minimum qualifications
· Degree in electrical engineering, software, mechatronics, robotics, or a similar relevant technical discipline
· Able to write clean, clear, documented, and testable code without requiring generative AI. The primary languages will be C++ and C, but Python and C# may also be necessary.
· Comfortable working in a bare-metal real-time embedded development environment
· Hands-on experience with electronics hardware and robotics systems development (sensor interfacing, data processing, real-time control, fault detection and mitigation, etc.)
· Able to use common lab equipment during development and debugging (e.g., oscilloscope, logic analyzer, multimeter, etc.)
Beneficial qualifications
· Aviation experience (e.g. flying drones, working on relevant student teams, theory of flight courses, etc.)
· Embedded systems development experience on ARM
· G driver’s license
