As we scale into the U.S. defense and national security space, we’re seeking a Business Development Representative with direct experience working with or within the U.S. military. Ideally, you’ve held a rank of Lieutenant (O-2) or above, and you understand how to navigate the complex world of military procurement, operational requirements, and programmatic needs. You’ll help Avalon shape and deliver transformative capability to defense customers who demand the best.
What You’ll Do
Develop and execute go-to-market strategies for Avalon’s holographic display technology in defense and dual-use applications.
Leverage your military background and network to open doors, map stakeholders, and build relationships with end users and procurement offices.
Translate complex product capabilities into mission-relevant value propositions.
Represent Avalon at industry events, demos, military briefings, and trade shows across the U.S.
Track programs, RFPs, and funding streams aligned with Avalon’s tech (e.g., SBIR, OTAs, DARPA, AFWERX, etc.).
Capture customer feedback and insights to inform product development and future engagement strategies.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
A Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, a related field, or equivalent experience in a customer-facing or business development-driven role, ideally in a start-up environment.
Former U.S. military officer (Lieutenant / O-2 or higher) with strong familiarity with acquisition, operations, technical systems, or equivalent experience working in/with defense customers is preferred.
5+ years in business development, defense sales, capture management, or federal contracting.
Deep understanding of the DoD ecosystem, from end users to program offices and acquisition commands.
Experience positioning early-stage or complex tech in defense settings.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with a consultative, customer-first mindset.
Willingness to travel regularly across the U.S. to engage with partners and prospects.
