Your Contribution to Our Growth

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our core engineering team in Vancouver. This is an opportunity to help shape the next generation of our backend platform as we continue evolving our architecture to support a rapidly growing global business.

You'll work on highly scalable backend services that power critical business operations across our platform. Projects will range from building new distributed systems from the ground up to modernizing existing services as we continue our migration toward an event-driven, microservices-based architecture.

This role is ideal for an experienced backend engineer who enjoys solving complex distributed systems challenges, thrives in ambiguous environments, and wants to have a meaningful impact on architecture and technical direction while remaining highly hands-on.

This role is an exciting opportunity for someone who is a self-starter and has a strong background in the fintech industry, is comfortable wearing multiple hats, and has no problem with rolling up their sleeves and staying close to code.

This is a Full-Time, Permanent position working Hybrid out of our Downtown Vancouver office.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Develop new platform capabilities while modernizing legacy services into scalable microservices.
• Design and implement event-driven systems that support high-volume, mission-critical business workflows.
• Build reliable, resilient services capable of operating in distributed environments.
• Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and technical leaders to define system architecture and technical solutions.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, system design, and technical planning while remaining deeply involved in implementation.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and engineering best practices to ensure high-quality software delivery.
• Improve application performance, scalability, observability, and reliability.
• Help evolve our engineering platform as we continue transitioning away from serverless architectures toward containerized, service-oriented systems.
• Mentor other engineers and contribute to fostering a collaborative engineering culture.

We’d Love to See

• 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Deep expertise with Node.js, TypeScript, and Java in production environments.
• Experience designing and building distributed systems using event-driven architecture.
• Strong understanding of asynchronous messaging patterns and event-based system design.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar event streaming technologies.
• Experience building or maintaining microservices-based architectures.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, API design, and scalable backend systems.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering teams.
• Comfortable balancing approximately 70% hands-on development with 30% system design and architecture.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
