Job Type: Full Time Remote (Hybrid option available for those in the Ottawa area - 55 Murray Street Office)

Total Compensation: CAD $95,000 - $135,000 base salary - Placement within range based on experience and qualifications

Role (Description)

As a Senior Quality Assurance Analyst, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and quality of our mission-critical software by designing and implementing comprehensive testing frameworks, developing automated test suites, executing functional and regression testing protocols, and establishing quality metrics that drive continuous improvement.

You will work closely with development teams and product owners to architect and deploy foundational testing infrastructures, implement CI/CD pipeline integration, and develop automated validation systems. In this role, you will champion the quality process for the engineering team, develop and execute test cases that validate critical functionality, identify potential issues before they reach production, and maintain clear documentation of testing processes.

We are looking for a detail-oriented professional who can lead quality initiatives, build robust testing frameworks, and drive operational excellence in environments where precision, reliability, and mission success are paramount. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on software that serves and public safety organizations, where quality and reliability are not just business requirements—they're mission-critical imperatives.

This is a full-time position based in Ottawa. Eligible candidates must either possess or be eligible to obtain a Government of Canada Top Secret security clearance.

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in QA or Automation roles
  • A minimum of 2+ years of experience with programming languages such as Python or JavaScript
  • A minimum of 2+ years of experience implementing and working with test automation frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience as the lead QA for a product or platform, and setting quality standards with cross-functional teams
  • Proven track record of integrating QA methodologies and processes into cross-functional workstreams

Skills & Competencies

  • Well-versed in both front-end and back-end testing methodologies
  • Thorough understanding of QA methodologies, processes, and best practices
  • Strong analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across development teams and with product stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple testing initiatives simultaneously
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues and drive efficient resolution
  • Experience with test strategy development and risk-based testing approaches

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with knowledge management systems, case management systems, or relevant defence industry applications
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and sprint-based development cycles
  • Experience working in or closely with defence, public safety, or national security organizations

Key Responsibilities

Test Strategy and Planning

  • Partner with product and development teams to understand requirements and develop comprehensive testing strategies for the organization
  • Create and maintain detailed test plans and test cases to ensure thorough coverage across all platform components
  • Document testing approaches based on product risk assessments and regulatory requirements
  • Advise on and implement testing strategies and frameworks across the entire platform

Test Execution and Automation

  • Work with Scrum Masters to seamlessly incorporate QA activities into development sprints
  • Perform thorough manual testing across all phases of the development lifecycle
  • Execute test cases with clear, detailed documentation and reproducible results
  • Establish and maintain automated testing processes, implementing test automation where appropriate
  • Conduct comprehensive regression testing to ensure new changes don't impact existing functionality
  • Provide regular status updates on testing progress and quality metrics

Quality Assurance and Issue Management

  • Identify and document critical issues early in the development cycle
  • Log defects with clear reproduction steps, supporting evidence, and impact assessments
  • Collaborate with developers to troubleshoot and resolve reported issues efficiently
  • Champion quality standards and best practices across the engineering organization

Project Support and Communication

  • Participate actively in sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
  • Review and provide detailed feedback on requirements, specifications, and design documents
  • Work closely with development teams and management to maintain and exceed quality standards
  • Communicate testing results and quality metrics to stakeholders at all levels
