Summary / Role Purpose

The Lead Application Engineer is responsible for leveraging advanced-level engineering knowledge and relationships to help customers solving complex engineering problems using Ansys Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software and to support regional accounts with significant impact on software revenue.

The role encompasses providing technical support of our customers. engaging in presale activities to support sales campaigns, delivering professional services to support software growth and helping translate customer requirements into exciting new product features.

Lead complex customer engagements through project teams for presales, professional service activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate technical mastery and knowledge of CFD simulation techniques to provide the highest level of technical support to customers and channel partners, ensuring high-quality, timely customer service that results in improved customer satisfaction and productivity.
  • Take ownership of customer problems, proactively engage with selected accounts to provide comprehensive CFD solutions. Lead complex customer engagements throughout the sales opportunity lifecycle, interact with key customers to understand their product design needs, key business initiatives and engineering design workflows and articulate Ansys’ value proposition to Director level audiences.
  • Instruct advanced and/or application focused training classes. Lead project teams for professional services which include collaborative work with other field engineers in the same or different disciplines.
  • Gather customer requirements to support improvement of Ansys software and collaborate with the Ansys product development teams to translate customer requirements into new product capabilities and to guide Ansys product roadmap. Lead project teams testing new releases on industrial problems.
  • Participate in internal corporate initiatives to share knowledge and to create best practices, both within and outside the discipline.
  • Mentor junior engineers
  • Actively collaborate with other team members as well as other functions including sales, marketing and product management/development within and outside of the region to drive customer success.

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

  • Required education and degree type: Masters or PhD in Mechanical/Chemical/Aerospace or a related field.
  • Required minimum years of professional experience in an engineering environment: 10 years for Masters or 6 years for PhD.
  • Mastery-level knowledge of CFD on modeling high speed aerodynamics, turbo machinery, combustion on rocket engine, gas turbine and power plant or energy conversion system (fuel cell or electrolyzer)
  • Demonstrated use of relevant Ansys software or knowledge of other commercial CAE software packages (Star CCM+, CFD-ACE, OpenFOAM).
  • Subject matter expert in one or more relevant disciplines within Ansys’ business and is/will be sought out for advice by other Ansys engineers
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering practices and product development, experience with building solutions using simulation technology and deploying those solutions within customers’ engineering workflows.
  • Track record of delivering exceptional customer outcomes and revenue impact.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Logical problem-solving, strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to facilitate and conduct webinars and presentations to customers and to a wide range of audiences. Fluent in writing and speaking English
  • Ability to organize and drive multiple projects which are complex in nature across geographically diverse locations. Possesses a sense of urgency.
  • Projects a professional image and demonstrates business acumen, driven to succeed
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of time.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Additional preferred requirements for the specific position being advertised
    • Experience in related engineering domains like turbo machinery, rocket engine, gas turbine, combustor, boiler or fuel cell / electrolysis
    • Good understanding of Aerospace & Defense, Energy conversion and Generation or Combustion modeling
    • Programing skills: Python, Matlab, C, C++, Java, C#
  • Required minimum years of professional experience in an engineering environment: 15 years for Masters or 10 years for PhD
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior business managers and C-level executives.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand business requirements and translate these into an execution plan that delivers value and meets business goals.
