Summary / Role Purpose

The Distinguished Engineer provides counsel and guidance to top management on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between business units and cross functional areas within Ansys. The Distinguished Engineer focuses on providing thought leadership across multiple disciplines; recognized as “the go-to person” for the most complex assignments in relevant subject matter areas. This position requires significant company exposure (including advice and council) beyond a single business unit. External expertise and influence well known within industry and will often interact with key customers to speak on behalf of ANSYS. In addition, the Distinguished Engineer creates plans to define and evaluate how technology should be utilized and leveraged to enable a world-class customer experience. This role will drive the decision criteria and vendor evaluation on technology decisions that will advance Ansys’ mission and is responsible for delivering innovative technology solutions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead Ansys’ Cloud and AI transformations

  • Define market requirements and workflows for Ansys Cloud and AI products, and work with Product Owners to further refine the end-user product requirements

  • Develop the cloud and AI product strategy (including pricing & packaging)

  • Lead the effort to establish the architecture for the Cloud/AI technology group, enabling future iteration and feature expansion with a focus on design components; accomplishing this through working closely with technical teams to understand technology capabilities as they relate to meeting the goals of the business and working closely with business partners to understand future technology and features needed by the market.

  • Create and manage the Cloud/AI product roadmap

  • Monitor industry trends & innovations

  • Perform competitive analyses

  • Create the financial forecast and track product performance

  • Propose actions and technical follow-up of partners alliances

  • Support the Product Marketing in the creation of the product messaging content

  • Represent the cloud software product line externally providing thought leadership within the simulation software industry.

  • Oversee the research, development, and introduction of new solution capabilities, processes, and tooling aligned with technical innovation strategy that will enable a world class customer experience

  • Consult with and provide guidance to senior management on complex projects and emerging technologies and opportunities that will drive Ansys growth and differentiation in the market

  • Drive strategic contribution across the entirety of the product lifecycle from vision through implementation

  • Guide and advise stakeholders about disruptive technologies and trends

  • Work with technical and business stakeholders to establish the architecture for the system in development and to allow for future iteration and feature expansion

  • Leads or leverages cross functional teams to evaluate, develop and manage projects for new product development and ongoing lifecycle management of products and processes

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent professional experience

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience with software development (e.g., algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis) and/or systems design (e.g., Unix/Linux, IP networking, performance/reliability)

  • Experience translating business needs into engineering opportunities focused on scale, performance, reliability, and efficiency

  • Exposure and understanding of existing, new, and emerging technologies

  • Extensive experience and knowledge in cloud and IT network systems

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field

  • Extensive experience in any of the following areas: Cloud Design, AI, Product Management, Product Marketing or related work experience

  • Experience collaborating across organizational boundaries, forming alliances with other members of the executive leadership team, and building bridges that support functional as well as company goals

  • Ability to identify trends and promote solutions that solve challenges efficiently across multiple product areas

  • Experience building trustful relationships within and across peer teams that foster deep engagement and defining and delivering key technologies

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to represent and promote complex business or technical concepts internally and externally

  • Highly collaborative and able to lead via influence and great ideas, coordinating people and resources from multiple areas of the company

  • Recognized expert within Cloud, AI, and Computer Science industry based upon awards and affiliations
