Required Results:
- Timely and Accurate Financial Reporting: Deliver complete and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports, ensuring full regulatory compliance.
- Predictable Budgeting and Forecasting: Own the budget, planning and forecast cycles and provide predictable, reliable financial models (e.g., cash runway, profitability, burn) to support executive-level decision-making.
- High-Performing Finance Team: Develop and lead a skilled finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and professional growth.
- Robust Financial Operations: Establish and maintain scalable processes, systems and internal controls that support the company's growth while safeguarding assets and ensuring audit readiness
Essential Functions:
- Financial Reporting & Compliance (35%):
- Oversee all financial reporting, including the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
- Ensure strict compliance with Canadian (ASPE) accounting standards and Canadian and U.S. tax requirements. Possess knowledge of U.S. and IFRS accounting standards
- Oversee all financial audits and serve as a key liaison with external auditors.
- Maintain relationships with Canadian and U.S. bank and capital partners.
- Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic Modeling (25%):
- Lead the company's budgeting and forecasting processes, collaborating with executive and department heads to create and monitor budgets.
- Conduct in-depth variance analysis and provide actionable financial insights to the CFO and leadership team.
- Develop and manage comprehensive financial models for cash flow, profitability and capital allocation.
- Team Leadership & Development (25%):
- Manage, mentor, and evaluate the performance of the finance and accounting team.
- Foster cross-departmental collaboration to ensure financial data and insights are used to drive business decisions.
- Process Improvement & Risk Management (15%):
- Identify and implement process improvements and leverage technology to increase efficiency and scalability.
- Establish and monitor robust internal controls and policies to mitigate financial risks and safeguard company assets.
Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or management role.
- CPA designation is required.
- Experience in a small to mid-size tech company, startup, or high-growth environment is highly preferred.
- Proven ability to build, mentor, and lead a finance team.
- Strong knowledge of ASPE/IFRS and regulatory compliance.
- Expertise in financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Experience with ERP implementation (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks) is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, concise insights for executive leadership.
