Meet the Team
The MCU & SDT Apps Group builds software solutions that ensure the seamless integration of Torc’s autonomous vehicle platform with the underlying AD-Kit, vehicle systems, and test environments. This team is responsible for developing software for microcontrollers and microprocessors focused on motion control, health & diagnostics, connectivity, and calibration to support Torc’s mission of delivering a safe and robust autonomous trucking solution.
We are currently seeking a Staff Software Engineer who is passionate about embedded software development, real-time systems, and automotive safety standards to help drive technical leadership and innovation within the group.
What You’ll Do
As a Staff Software Engineer on the MCU & SDT Apps Group (four teams), you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing embedded software solutions that enable Torc’s autonomy stack to function reliably and efficiently within the vehicle platform.
- Set the technical direction and define architectural guardrails for MCU & SDT applications.
- Collaborate with engineering leaders to establish best practices and software development standards.
- Provide technical mentorship to engineering teams, ensuring high-quality software design and implementation.
- Participate in design and code reviews, providing constructive feedback to ensure code quality and maintainability.
- Develop, integrate, and optimize embedded software for motion control, diagnostics, and connectivity applications.
- Work closely with hardware suppliers, DTNA (Daimler Trucks North America), and internal cross-functional teams.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Robotics, or a related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in automotive or robotics software engineering, with a strong focus on embedded systems development. Master’s Degree preferred.
- Expertise in automotive software development, including real-time embedded C/C++ programming.
- Deep understanding of AUTOSAR Classic and motion control software.
- Strong automotive diagnostics knowledge, including OBD, UDS, and fault management systems.
- Experience in supplier management, working with Tier-1 automotive vendors.
- Experience with automotive safety and compliance standards, such as ISO 26262 and ASPICE.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, particularly with low-level embedded systems.
Bonus Points!
- Hands-on mentality – willing to dive into the code and solve challenging technical issues.
- Experience with functional safety (ISO 26262), cybersecurity, and secure coding practices.
- Knowledge of vehicle calibration methodologies.
- Experience in real-time operating systems (RTOS), middleware, and communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, SOME/IP, etc.).
