As the Director of Artificial Intelligence, you will lead strategic R&D efforts focusing on large language models (LLMs), natural language processing (NLP), and natural language understanding (NLU). Your role involves staying at the forefront of AI research, prototyping innovative solutions, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate and enhance AI capabilities, ultimately driving both short-term product gains and long-term foundational advancements.


  • System Thinking & Foresight: Invest in research and development (R&D) with a foresight perspective, allowing 3-9 months for R&D, experimentation, and iteration.
  • Resource Allocation: Allocate resources towards large language models (LLMs), retrieval mechanisms, and enhanced conversational AI models.
  • Integration & Collaboration: Work closely with platform, data, and product teams to align on the roadmap, pitching ideas and convincing stakeholders.
  • AI Deployment & Experimentation: Leverage mature in-house or external AI models, continuously experiment, and iterate to build foundational AI features.

Research & Development

  • Stay Current: Keep up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI, including NLP, LLM, NLU, ML agents, and scientific publications.
  • Publication & Leadership: Publish research findings, maintain technical leadership, and contribute to the scientific community.


  • Open Source Community Engagement: Participate in and contribute to the open-source AI community, translating AI research into practical product solutions.
  • Prototype Development: Focus on prototyping and proof-of-concept models, transferring successful prototypes to the platform team for deployment.

Technical Oversight

  • AI Model Audit & Improvement: Continuously audit current AI capabilities, identify limitations, and improve existing models while building new ones.
  • Technical Roadmap: Develop and manage a technical roadmap, bringing expertise in LLMs to adapt and invest in R&D for future advancements.
  • Project Management: Oversee the state and limitations of various models within the team, ensuring efficient management and enhancement of AI models.

Strategic Impact

  • Adaptation & Vision: Help the company adapt quickly to industry changes by sharing strategic insights and following cutting-edge research.
  • Training & Scaling: Prepare and scale new training models and datasets to build a robust AI practice.

  • Vector & Semantic Search: Build expertise in vector search and semantic search to enhance AI capabilities.


  • Model Deployment: The role does not involve deploying models into production; this is handled by the platform team.
  • Operational Oversight: Focus is more on R&D and prototyping rather than day-to-day operational deployment.
