AlayaCare is looking for a pragmatic and experienced Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join the ANZ Residential engineering team. Full time permanent role. While we have offices throughout Australia, we're looking for someone to join our small remote New Zealand team for this role to allow for better crossover of hours with Victoria, British Columbia.

About AlayaCare

AlayaCare is a fast-growing mature SaaS scale-up with a presence in Australia/New Zealand, Canada and the United States who are revolutionising the way aged and disability care is delivered for service providers. We are driven by our purpose of enabling the care we want our loved ones to receive in the place they call home. We have an open and transparent culture, our teams are highly diverse, and we are committed to a workplace where we all feel that we can be ourselves.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer you will be part of the Production Engineering team at AlayaCare working on our Residential product (supporting residential aged care facilities). Working with your colleagues, you will be responsible for scoping your team’s technical work, leveraging your knowledge to set priority, and ensuring iterative delivery.

Your focus will be on scaling the current infrastructure, enhancing observability and alerting, improving resiliency, and building the necessary tooling, automation, and mentality to support a culture of ownership.

AlayaCare Residential is hybrid platform running Linux and Windows containerized workloads on Elastic Kubernetes Service in AWS. Our infrastructure is primarily orchestrated using Terraform Cloud, using Datadog for observability.

While there may be occasional earlier meetings to sync up with the BC team, you will be working New Zealand office hours (38 hours per week between 8.30am and 6pm on week days).

More specifically you will:

  • Provide technical leadership on Site Reliability Engineering, infrastructure, and automation.
  • Assist with monitoring the health, performance and scalability of product and infrastructure solutions.
  • Participate in incident management, perform root cause analysis, and improve systems to mitigate future risk.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure environments meet requirements, while conforming to established best practices.
  • Continue to drive automation of infrastructure, system configurations, and security.
  • Ensure that data storage and handling complies with established regulatory guidelines.
  • Proactively reviewing existing systems and operational practices in order to ensure good fit for use.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is infrastructure focused and understands infrastructure as code. You will need to be able to work independently and be confident in making decisions on your own – ideally you’ve worked for a global company with time zone handovers before. You will also have:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a DevOps or SRE role.
  • Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes and Helm.
  • Proficiency with Windows and Linux operating systems and containers.
  • Proficiency with AWS services (EC2, ALB/ELB, RDS, Route53, VPC, S3, etc.) or comparable experience with other public cloud providers.
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code solutions such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Proficiency with at least one common automation language such as Powershell, Python, Go, or Bash.
  • Experience with hosting Microsoft SQL Server Databases.
  • Experience with CI/CD (bonus points for zero-downtime environments).
  • Experience with monitoring/logging services such as Data Dog, New Relic, or opensource alternatives.
  • Experience leading Incident Management.
  • Understanding of Service Oriented Architecture.
  • Understanding of system/network security and data backup/recovery concepts.
  • Strong English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.

Why AlayaCare is a Great Place to Work:

  • Purposeful work – a chance to make a difference in aged and disability care in Australia.
  • Progression along well-defined career paths with ongoing learning and development opportunities – we’re looking for someone to invest in us, we’ll also invest in you.
