With offices in Toronto and Los Angeles, Acorn is a next-generation personalized regenerative medicine company with services offered at partner clinics across Canada and The United States. Acorn has developed the world’s first non-invasive, follicle-based cell cryopreservation service, launched in 2022, and has patented cell-based treatments made from a patients follicle cells in Aesthetics and Sports Medicine.

Acorn’s first cell-derived treatment is an autologous growth factor and exosome product developed from an individual's collected cells with applications in skin and hair rejuvenation, wound healing, and orthopedics. Data on concentrations of exosomes and growth factors and ex vivo performance far exceeded what is currently available.

Acorn is also actively involved in scientific research with top healthcare and education institutions in North America, including the National Research Council, the University of Toronto, Mount Sinai Hospital, and the University of Calgary, to further the potential of cells in the follicle across many areas of general health.

The Role

Acorn is looking for a passionate and dynamic Processing Specialist as part of our Los Angeles team. This role is part of the science team and reports to the lab manager.

As part of the processing team, you will be responsible for the commercial processing of human biological samples in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) upon the arrival of samples to our in Torrance. These samples are a lifelong resource for our clients, and diligent processing is paramount to ensure their ideal preservation.

You should feel comfortable in the start-up environment and feel energized and rewarded when you help us achieve great results.

Please note, this role may include evenings and weekends.

Location: Toronto / Los Angeles / Remote work arrangements possible

What You’ll Do

  • Collect, analyze and cryopreserve human biological samples in ISO-7 and ISO-5 clean rooms in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
    • Handle the transfer of samples into liquid nitrogen tanks.
    • Maintain laboratory equipment, sanitation and cleaning of the cleanrooms.
    • Maintain proper documentation inclusive of batch records for all sample processing.
    • Actively promote safety and awareness in the laboratory.
  • Sample processing may be required on Weekends/Evenings/some Holidays rotations.
  • Monitor all activities to ensure existing regulatory adherence.
  • Conduct facilities and quality audits.
  • Communicate any changes in processes, audit findings, and corrective actions to upper management for approval.
  • Develop and continue to work on a quality management system improving the overall quality of systems and processes.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

  • Bsc. or Msc. in the field of biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, cells and systems biology or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems with a high level of independence.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively present information.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to leading with humility, curiosity, and transparency, with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and dig into the work.
  • Access to a car in the Los Angeles Area regularly.
