AbCellera is a young, energetic, and rapidly growing tech company with an amazing team that searches, decodes, and analyzes natural immune systems to find antibodies that its partners can develop into drugs to prevent and treat disease. Our Translational Biology group is seeking an experienced and exceptional individual for the role of Senior Research Scientist - In Vivo Pharmacology. This scientist will help to build out our pharm-tox capabilities and increase confidence in our animal modeling so we can help our partners move faster and with less risk to the clinic. We need someone who has a passion for understanding how models can predict therapeutic responses to human disease. Our ideal candidate is a highly motivated and self-directed individual, a team-player who thrives in a fast-paced work environment with multiple competing priorities, and above all, someone who can learn and grow with us. This role offers the exciting opportunity to join one of Canada’s top biotech companies, while growing with a team that believes in collaboration, innovation, and mutual support.

How you might spend your days:

  • Working collaboratively with biology, protein engineering and PK scientists to generate in vivo proof-of-concept for lead validation, executing efficient PK/PD assessments and advancing programs to clinical development
  • Designing and executing/monitoring in vivo pharmacology and pharmacodynamic studies in immuno-oncology and other disease indications
  • Using detailed knowledge of state-of-the-art tools to enhance in vivo evaluation of antibody therapeutic mechanism of action
  • Developing, performing or overseeing supporting assays (e.g., receptor occupancy, immunoprecipitation, western blot, deep sequencing, RT-PCR, FACS) to assess target modulation levels and downstream effects at cellular, protein and gene level
  • Developing, executing or monitoring secondary ex vivo cell-based assays across various technology platforms (e.g., cell sorting, imaging, co-culture systems)
  • Preparing nonclinical pharmacology sections and strategy that support IND and clinical trial applications
  • Collaborating with teams across the company to solve problems, analyze, interpret and communicate data
  • Evaluating new technology and testing new models to better predict human illness
  • Reporting findings to our teams and partners to support data-driven decision making

We'd love to hear from you if:

  • You are genuinely curious, with an interest in discussing innovative ideas in a highly collaborative and face paced environment
  • You are good at communicating scientific and/or technical concepts with an emphasis on application
  • You are strongly self-motivated and work independently to identify project needs and follow that up with constructing and implementing solutions
  • You enjoy the teamwork that comes with working on complicated biological questions and building data sets that help to predict the success of therapies

Required Qualifications and Education:

  • PhD in Pharmacology, Biology or related discipline with working knowledge of the drug development process and 8+ years practical work experience in a biopharmaceutical industry environment
  • Experience with preclinical R&D of immuno-oncology therapeutics
  • Demonstrated proficiency in nonclinical development of large molecules/biologics from discovery to mid-stage development
  • Significant experience with authoring/reviewing study protocols and reports to ensure appropriate datasets are accurately generated and interpreted
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent documentation, organizational and communication skills
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a cross-functional team

Bonus points if you have:

  • Understanding of regulatory processes as well as GLP/ICH and other guidance documents
  • Experience with assessing new and emerging in silico / in vitro technologies to improve human prediction for antibody drug development
