Associate Scientist, Downstream Process Development
AbCellera Biologics
AbCellera is breaking the barriers of conventional drug development to propel antibody-based medicines from target to clinic. We are a team of scientists, engineers, creatives, and business professionals who believe that advancing science enhances lives. We have developed technologies to unlock high-value drug targets, including antibody-drug conjugates and T-cell engagers for cancer, and complex transmembrane proteins for indications such as metabolic and endocrine conditions, pain, and autoimmunity.
We are looking for an enthusiastic downstream scientist to join our downstream process development team as an Associate Scientist. You will be responsible for driving development and optimization of clinical & commercial manufacturing processes for the purification of antibodies. You will support antibody purification, including designing, planning and executing experiments, either independently or in collaboration with teammates.
How you might spend your days
- Screening and optimizing processes for antibody purification/downstream processing operations, including high throughput and bench-scale production
- Using your experience in scale-up and/or scale-down processes to aid CMC development work
- Engaging with multiple teams to build optimal solutions for challenges in antibody purification and production, including developing process steps to clear impurities and maximize product yield
- Benchmarking specific technologies in your own functional area to bring technology to state of the art
- Solving complex problems through analytical thinking to identify and understand alternatives using knowledge gained through formal education, experience and sound judgment
- Liaising with CMC team members and other partners, communicating project updates and deliverables
- Developing and implementing standard operating procedures
- Organizing, supporting, and collaborating with team members to meet project deliverables and timelines
We’d love to hear from you if
- You have a strong desire to support early phase antibody development by finding unique ways to improve and speed up the discovery to CMC development to GMP manufacturing paradigm
- You are ready to revolutionize therapeutic development and move at lightning speed to create a legacy in our industry
- You have an M.Sc or B.Sc and 2-5 years of relevant work experience in downstream process development within a biotechnology or pharmaceutical organization
- You have experience with different purification techniques such as chromatography, normal flow filtration (NFF), tangential flow filtration (TFF), and the associated instrumentation such as AKTA chromatography systems and UNICORN software
- You have experience with bioanalytical assays associated with purification processes, such as SDS-PAGE, HPLC, cIEF, etc. This would be highly desirable
- You are an outstanding communicator and teammate
- You are highly motivated and excited about the opportunity to work with an inspired team on challenging problems that matter
What we offer
AbCellera’s hiring range for this role is CAD $60,500 - $75,600 annually, commensurate with your education and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to base salary, we offer equity, annual bonus dependent on team and company performance, and a 6% (non-match) RRSP contribution.
You will have a CAD $1,500 annual Active Lifestyle Allowance, annual vacation, professional development opportunities, and comprehensive health benefits. Scientific and technical mentorship is a priority. And you’ll find we prioritize teams and social groups to build community and connections across AbCellera.
